The San Gabriel Police Officers’ Association held its 6th annual “Badges of Courage “Golf Tournament, Monday August 11, 2014. This year’s golf tournament was held at the beautiful Sierra La Verne Country Club, in the City of La Verne, with a shotgun start at 11:00am. A portion of the money raised from the tournament was to raise funds for several local charities that the San Gabriel POA has been helping to support for many years. Some of the charities that the SGPOA is involved with are; La Casa de San Gabriel Community Center, Asian Youth Center, Hope House El Monte, The Special Olympics of Southern California, and the San Gabriel Police Explorers.
Each year we are fortunate enough to attract some famous people to our golf tournaments. This year was not different. Of the many golfers that participated in this year’s event, we had some celebrities who joined the festivities, and helped make this year’s tournament an even more successful event. Some of the famous faces on the golf course were; former Los Angeles Dodgers Pitcher Fernando Valenzuela, former professional and Hall of Fame boxer, Welter Weight Champion Carlos Palomino, television actor/comedian Valente Rodriguez, and Television Channel 11 Fox News Anchor Rick Lozano .

The San Gabriel Police Officers’ Association would like to acknowledge the following people who made this tournament so successful; Vince Salazar, who without his tireless dedication, this tournament would never happen. Steve Gaona, who in Vince’s absence, stepped in to handle the final planning and execution of the tournament. The following POA members came out to do their part to make sure the event went on without a hitch; Curtis Gray, Vy Van, Mike Munoz, Joe Leach, Steve Garcia, and Jim Drabos. The following volunteers also need to be acknowledged; Chris Fetner (San Gabriel Fire Department), Nina Cortez, Erica Rozzotto, and Kristen Drabos. Members of San Gabriel Police Explorer Post #219 came out to do their part too, and were a huge help.

At the awards dinner banquet, golfers were treated to a tasty dinner and of course, Drinks! Trophies were awarded to individual golfers who were able to hit the ball the farthest, and get the ball closest to the pin, and a putting contest. Trophies were also awarded to the first, second, and third place teams.
