Congratulations Team San Gabriel / Vernon
Great job to the running teams of the San Gabriel and Vernon police departments, who placed fifth in the annual Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay Race. The Baker to Vegas relay race is a 120 mile long, 20 leg relay race that runs through the Mojave Desert, from Baker, California to Las Vegas, Nevada. The grueling race takes place throughout the day and night, as well as up and over a mountain. The men and women from both agencies trained very hard throughout the year in preparation for this huge event. Thousands of runners from hundreds of law enforcement agencies from throughout the U.S., and from several different countries around the world all compete in various categories, depending on the size of their respective agencies. Team San Gabriel / Vernon qualified for Category "99" which is for agencies with less than 100 sworn members. In Category "99" Team San Gabriel / Vernon earned fifth place with a combined running time of 16 hours, 53 minutes, and 12 seconds.
Special recognition to Team Captain Allen Sam and to Steve Gaona, who made this all possible with their hard work and motivation to get the team to train hard and prepare. Allen and Steve took care of the logistics, fundraising, and planning; which began almost immediately after the end of last year's race. Great job to everyone and congratulations! Your hard work and determination paid off.
The rule of thumb is, "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas." But in this case, don't leave Vegas without the mugs!
